Food that supports the practice, eaten in silence.
Nourish the body and settle the mind with wholesome organic sattvic meals made from fresh, natural ingredients. Our cooking leans on seasonal fruit and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and gentle herbs, with minimal processing and unhurried preparation. Nothing is heavy, nothing is stimulating, and nothing leaves you needing a nap you did not plan for.
Meals here are part of the yogic day rather than a break from it. Eating with attention nourishes the body and also builds awareness and gratitude, which is why we ask guests to observe a few simple practices at the table. They take a day or two to get used to and they change the experience of eating considerably.
Yogic eating practices
At the Wellness Home, meals are regarded as an integral part of the yogic lifestyle. Eating mindfully not only nourishes the body but also cultivates awareness, gratitude, and inner balance. Participants are encouraged to observe the following yogic eating practices:
- Begin each meal with a prayer or moment of gratitude, offering thanks for the food, those who prepared it, and the abundance of nature.
- Eat in silence. A quiet dining environment encourages mindfulness, deepens appreciation for the food, and allows the meal to become a meditative experience.
- Practise moderation. Eat only until comfortably satisfied rather than completely full, allowing adequate space for healthy digestion and sustained energy.
- Chew your food slowly and thoroughly. Mindful chewing supports proper digestion, improves nutrient absorption, and enhances awareness of the eating process.
- After completing your meal, you may sit in Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose) for a few minutes, as this traditional yogic posture is believed to support healthy digestion and promote digestive comfort.
